Girls Hockey Blitz

The First Year girls’ hockey team travelled to Ursulines Blackrock to take part in two blitz tournaments on Wednesday 22nd April.

In the Bicentennial Shield, the team opened with an impressive 7-0 victory over Ursulines Blackrock, with goals from Ava Tait, Emma Courtney, Geri O’Sullivan, and a hat-trick from Áine Loughnane. They then drew with a strong Ashton side and secured a 1-0 win against Intermediate Killorglin thanks to an excellent goal from Roisín Foy. A final group game win against St Als, with Grace Forrest on target, saw the team progress to the final. They faced Ursulines’ first team in a closely contested final that finished level and was decided on shuttles, where we were unfortunate not to come away with the win. A special mention to Áine Loughnane and Grace Forrest for stepping into goal for this tournament.

In the Maureen Clarke Memorial Cup, the girls once again faced very strong opposition including Ursulines Blackrock, Ashton, Scoil Mhuire and Regina Mundi. Although results did not go their way in some closely fought matches, the team showed great determination, resilience, and teamwork throughout. They finished the tournament on a positive note with a hard-earned 0-0 draw against Scoil Mhuire.

Well done to all the players, who represented the school with pride and demonstrated excellent skill and teamwork throughout the day.
