Today was a special and memorable occasion as the three secondary schools of the Diocese came together for a Service of Thanksgiving in honour of Bishop Paul Colton, recognising his outstanding work with schools across the Diocese and his longstanding support for Protestant education nationally. Bishop Colton retires shortly after 27 years of devoted service as Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross.
Students from all three schools played a central role in the service and presentations. Bishop Colton was presented with sports tops from each school, each bearing the name Colton 27 on the back — a fitting tribute to someone who could so often be found on the sidelines, supporting students and schools at matches over many years.
In a particularly symbolic gesture, an artist from each school presented Bishop Colton with an original drawing of their school’s front door, shown open to symbolise the inclusive, welcoming, and values-led communities fostered under Bishop Paul’s leadership.
It was a lovely and fitting occasion, giving all of us the opportunity to say thank you to Bishop Paul and to Susan, and to wish them every blessing and good wish for the next chapter from across our school communities.
