Spanish Trip Update
Article Uploaded : 15/03/2022 13:31:22 by Midleton College

Today, on a rainy day here, our students attended their first Spanish language classes.  They were split into four different classes, as based on their online level test, previously completed, the week before. Classes were imparted by Consuelo, Sandra, Asun and Jorge and as students will vouch, not a single word of Castellano was spoken.

After lunch, a visit to the ancient Universidad de Salamanca was on the agenda. The university is one of the three oldest in Europe.   Students learnt about Unamuno, rector of the university in 1936 and also learnt the significance of the spider and bee, graduation ceremonies marked by a tradition of inscribing the names of scholars in bulls’ blood and finally what constituted a passage to celestial perfection.
Later on this evening, we are embarking on out tapa trail.  Account to follow tomorrow.
