Article Uploaded : 03/11/2021 13:04:11 by Midleton College

Congratulations to Kyle Read from Form V who made his International debut for the Ireland U18 Clubs Rugby Team against Italy at the weekend.  Kyle was selected and excelled at scrum half for the Irish team and while Italy U18s won out on the day it was nevertheless a very proud day for Kyle and his family, his club and for his school.
Kyle is also the vice-captain of the Munster Club Select U18 team that will be competing in the Section A Munster Schools Cup.  Kyle is joined on this team by another Midleton College student, Eoghan Smyth.  Eoghan, who is in Transition Year in the College, plays Centre on the team.  Congratulations to both Kyle & Eoghan  on their selection for this representative team.
(In addition to their rugby exploits, Kyle and Eoghan are also talented hockey players and they have represented Midleton College with distinction on many occasions).
There was another notable rugby achievement last weekend as Midleton College past pupil Ben Mitchell made his debut for the USA National Rugby team when they played Uruguay in a qualifier for the Rugby World Cup 2023   Ben was selected for his debut appearance in the second row and hopefully will go on to earn many more caps in the future.  Ben (Class of 2014) played rugby throughout his years in Midleton College, and with his club Youghal RFC.  While at Midleton College he was selected to play for the Munster B Schools team for the interprovincial series.  He currently plays his club rugby for San Diego Legion in the US Major League. Congratulations and well done to Ben from all in Midleton College!!!
