Equestrian Update
Article Uploaded : 11/03/2023 by Midleton College

On Friday, Midleton College riders enjoyed their most successful outing to date with Chef d’Equipe Ms Dawson. On a bitterly cold day at the Equine Centre in Sceilig, Individual riders Sadhbh Holohan and Ava Huggard astride their mounts recorded double clears in the 80cm event. They were unlucky to be just out of the rosettes, but the clock was not on their side. Grace Day was also in the saddle but was unlucky to knock a couple of fences on an increasingly strong pony, wanting to gallop at the fences!

In the team category, riders Hazel Dwyer, Millie Bowles, Zara Richardson and Harry Roch-Perks, had an extremely successful performance.  Up against  18 other teams, they  progressed to the jump off against the clock, having qualified for this by finishing Round 1 on a score of 4 faults, only.  Nine other teams finished on an equal score of 4 faults also and in order to sort out the placings, one rider from each team was elected to jump against the clock.

Zara Richardson on Rihanna was selected for the jump off round on this occasion and she was so unlucky to record 4 faults in a super fast time.  Midleton College were unfortunate to be denied a rosette, finishing in 7th place overall out of 19 teams.

This young team is showing great promise and all augurs well for our next outing to Maryville in April.  Well ridden all riders.
