Our inaugural Art Week kicked off in the school on Sunday 15th May, with an Art Room Open Day exhibition of students' work. The exhibition coincided with Midleton's Mid May Arts Festival. Throughout the week student's took part in many workshops; Sara O'Hara facilitated a Textiles workshop with form 3, Iryna Harty gave a Watercolour demo & workshop to form 2 & 5, while the Art Club members got a lesson in Special Effects makeup & Face-painting by Clara & Richard. On Thursday our Junk Kouture class got a makeup masterclass with MUA Laura O'Keeffe and our form 3 classes sketched the facade of Midleton College 'en plein air'.
On Friday, artist Belinda Walsh gave our form 1 art class a chance to make their own Stop Motion Animation, where they produced a 30sec movie in only 40mins.
Throughout the week student artwork was displayed on easels around the school, an art quiz competition was held & our ceramic kiln had its first firing. There was also an interactive string art piece in the Arches Café allowing students to make their mark on a piece of communal art.
Mr Scanlon's Photography module exhibited their photographs, Ms Dennehy's Music class made posters & Ms O'Riordan's English class wrote poems in response to Edvard Munch's 'The Scream'.
Lastly The Scallop Shell Gallery was taken over by Form 4's Junk Kouture exhibition, displaying this years entries to the competition.
Lots of creative fun had by all.
