Article Uploaded : 07/02/2022 19:01:15 by Midleton College

Well done to all seventeen students who competed in the recent South Munster School Cross-Country Championships held last Friday in the Cork athletics grounds, Slieveroe, Riverstick. We had a number of excellent performances on the day. Chief being Oscar Murphy (Form I) who finished in 10th place in the minor boys 2000m race, a super run out of a field of over one hundred. Oscar has subsequently qualified himself for the Munster Championships to be held on Friday 18th February. Well done Oscar!

Other notable performances came from Sean Connolly and Jude Buckley (Form 3) in the intermediate Boys 4000m race, who both narrowly missed out on qualification despite impressive runs, finishing 25th and 23rd respectively. Alannah Berkeley (Form 3) ran a strong race in the intermediate girls 3000m, coming in 40th. Joseph Higgins (Form 6) battled hard with the most arduous task of running in the Senior Boys 5000m, finishing in 48th position.

Max Colombet, Alex O'Regan and Connor Milward Aherne (Form I) all ran well also in the minor boys race and were unlucky not to feature in the team standings. Abby Conway (Form I) stepped up as the sole minor girl, and ran very well in a large field. Other runners included : Noah Wilson, Emma Rafferty, Yoki He, Aaron Hull, Hannah Curtin, Valerie Alipini, Tom Prendergast and Rowan Harte, who all acquitted themselves admirably in a tough course and represented the school with distinction. Well done all and we wish Oscar Murphy the best of luck in two week's time in the Munster Championships.
