Congratulations to Midleton College Transition Year students Lewis Jennings and Padraig Power who won two awards at this year's Eircom Junior Spider Awards. Their project, Spacechaser is a digital game aimed at the mobile app industry. The students won an award for 'Best Digital Game in the Senior Category of this year's competition. They then went on to win the overall award in the senior category, to become the 'winners of the winners'.

The Eircom Junior Spider Awards were set up to encourage teachers and children to improve their technology skills and their use of the web. A record number of entries saw the best of this years blogs, websites and apps on display at The Foundry, Google's Irish headquarters, on Tuesday 29th last. Among the judges of this year's competition were Bill Liao (founder of Coder DoJo) and Colin Meagle (founder of Continuum).

In total 8 students from Midleton College reached this year's final. Isabel Tanner reached the final in the 'Best App' category for her project 'Dairygo' which aims to promote Milk Products to young people.

Five out of six finalists in the 'Best Digital Game' category were Midleton College students. Oliver Norton reached the final for his game 'Batman'; Adrian Cowhig, 'Bounce a Ball'; Ronan O'Mahony 'Jump Around'; Fergal Roche & Julian Power 'Revolution' and Lewis Jennings & Padraig Power for their game 'Spacechaser'.

It's the school's first time entering the competition and it was a great achievement that so many projects reached the final stage of the competition. The group travelled to the final with their teacher, Ms. Linehan, to The Foundry, Google Headquarters in Dublin, on Tuesday April 29th.
