Madrid Calling

On Friday October 2nd 32 Form 3 students set off to Madrid to spend a week with their Spanish Exchange partners. Accompanied by Ms Dawson, Mr Power and Mr Fleming they will be met by their Spanish host families at Madrid airport. Over the weekend they will be visiting places of historical interest such as Toledo or Alcala de Henares, birthplace of Cervantes or visiting the Prado or Sorollla Art Galleries.

Some students may even get the chance to watch the Madrid Football Derby between the two Madrid teams on Sunday evening or some may go to the Sunday race meeting in the Zarzuela. From Monday to Friday students will be attending classes in the Madrid school involved in this exchange for the second successive year. Classes range from History, IT, Spanish, Drama, PE etc. Classes are combined with a walking tour of Madrid, taking in the sites of The Royal Palace, the Almudena Cathedral, the Plaza Mayor, El Barrio Austriaco,the Retiro Park. Also included is a fact finding treasure hunt in nearby Segovia, a visit to El Escorial and a visit to the Reina Sofia Art Gallery in Madrid where the  Art teacher  from our school on Madrid explains the  reasons behind Picasso's depiction of Guernica in The Spanish Civil War.

The Madrid Exchange concludes on Friday October 10th and the group arrives back in Midleton College at 2 am. It promises to be an extremely action packed week and undoubtedly an invaluable learning and cultural experience. A disfrutar!!!!!!!
