The junior cricket team travelled to Harlequins on Monday May 22nd to play Douglas Comprehensive. Douglas batted first and made 115-5 from their 20 overs. Midleton College fielded very well, with Kayleigh Williams, Niamh Codd & Andrew McCarthy taking some smart catches, Ben Jennings impressing behind the stumps and Eoin Long's quick thinking resulted in a run out.

Edward Hennessy, Andrew McCarthy, James Burfield & Bella a Kelly all took a wicket each, but the pick of the bowlers was Eoin Long, who took 2 wickets and a run out off his own bowling.

With 116 a daunting target to reach, the Midleton College innings did not get off to a great start, when Ross Bailey was struck on the heel from the very first delivery, resulting in him having to retire hurt. This didn't deter them though, some disciplined batting from Andrew McCarthy, Edward Hennessy and James Burfield laid the foundation in the early overs for what was to come.

The stage was set with score at 49-2 after 10 overs, the game could go either way. Enter a Eoin Long and Ben Jennings. They batted superbly and formed a superb partnership which was worth 59.

With 2 overs to go, we needed 16 runs. It was getting nervy! Alas, we only scored 8 runs in those 2 overs and lost out narrowly by just 8 runs, 108-4 after 20 overs.

For must of these players, it was their first ever cricket match, but they can leave with their heads held very high! Eoin Long impressed with both bat and ball and was awarded man of the match. A magnificent effort by all, well done!

The squad on the day was: Ross Bailey, Andrew McCarthy, Kayleigh Williams, Bella Kelly, Edward Hennessy, Eoin Long, James Burfield, Ben Jennings, Niamh Codd, Rachel Stuart, Kate Killeen and Lauren Jennings.
