The Lego Robot competition is an annual event run by the Cork Electronics Industry Association (CEIA) fro second year students. Teams of up to four can enter. This year David Byron, Katelyn Manning, Jim Moloney and Cathal O'Deaghaigh took part.
Since November the students have been developing computer code and building the robot so that it was capable of completing the tasks set out for this years competition. The group also learned about electronics circuits including how to solder components to a breadboard.
On Thursday the 6th of February the team travelled to the Nexus Hall in CIT to put their skills to the test. The robot, Hank, performed brilliantly and after the four rounds of competition the team were at the top of the leaderboard, however bonus points awarded for speed were then awarded, giving Rossa College from Skiberreen a narrow margin over Midleton College.
Despite being so close, the team were delighted with their second place finish and have all said they would definitely recommend it to any of next years Form 2 students.
