Today we bid goodbye to Ms. Gobnait Buckley, who leaves Midleton College for pastures green.
It’s been eighteen years since Ms. Buckley first began her journey at Midleton College, joining the Irish Department in 2000. She has been a stalwart in the Irish Department for many years, leading the department for the past ten years. As a lifelong gaelgeoir she has enthusiastically promoted the language throughout the school. She heartily led Seachtain na Gaeilge for many years – bringing the language to life through Bingó, Ceilí dancing agus Trá na gCeist. Central to her love of the Gaeilge was the annual trip to An Gaeltacht with the senior cycle students. And of course she has successfully guided many students towards the Junior and Leaving Certificates for many years.
Ms. Buckley has been a long standing Form Teacher, she has worked as Head of CSPE as well as being called upon as ‘stand in’ nurse when the occasion arose. Yet, for many she was the first port of call in those terrifying first form days as Head of Girls Boarding. Taking new students ‘under her wing’ and guiding them through those first weeks.
In more recent times she guided the Student Council for the past seven years, helped with the Christmas raffle and the hot chocolate stand at the Christmas Fair.
To us she has been a wonderful colleague, always with a witty story on hand and always with a positive attitude. We’d like to wish Ms. Buckley a warm and sincere ‘best of luck’ in her new school. Ba mhaith linn buíochas a ghabháil léi as na blianta a chaith sí linn agus gach rath agus sláinte a ghuí uirthi agus a clann amach anseo. Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís!
