Rugby Grounds

Our tradition in rugby goes back to the games earliest days in the province. Rugby was first introduced to Munster in 1870 and first played at Midleton College. The Cork Football (Rugby) Club played against Midleton Past Pupils' in Cork Park on October 1878.

Tom Harrison a past pupil of the College played in that game. He attended a meeting in Dublin in December 1874, which led to the formation of the Irish Rugby Football Union in 1879.

Midleton College was among the first clubs to affiliate to the IRFU.

Rugby remains an important part of life in Midleton College.

We are fortunate to have three pitches covering an area of eight acres. The grounds are known locally as the Cricket Field.

In recent years , Midleton Rugby Football Club bought land adjacent to our pitches. They have two pitches of their own.

The school, and the club have a close working relationship. Many of our past pupils' go on to play with the club.
