Rugby
February and March saw the cancellation of many matches though Midleton was succesful in every match played. The seniors played a strong Pres side and won 21-14 with tries from Charlie O’Sullivan and Brian Quill. The JCT played another Pres side winning with a 16-10 scoreline with tries coming from Ned Hodson the captain and Scourge of the Backlines. The most impressive scoreline of February goes to the U-13s with a 24-0 score with tries from none other than Dylan Somers who opened the scoring of the day after burning the Midleton RFC team and touching down in the corner.
March the 18th was a good day for Midleton rugby with the Senior and JCT winning their semifinals against Waterpark School. The Senior team is now through to the final of the Mungret Cup after winning their match 8-5. The JCT won their match with an impressive scoreline of 26-5 and will now go on to play in the final of the Giles Cup. The U-13 team was the only team that failed their glorious conquest for a cup losing their game 5-0 against Newtown.

Mungret Cup
On the 26th of March the Midleton Senior Rugby team and Midleton supporters travelled to Clonmel to play against Newtown in the Mungret Cup Final. This was the fifth year in a row that Midleton had made it to the final and Midleton had won the cup three years running.
Midleton came into the final with a number of players out because of injury, Donnacha ‘The Dominator’ O’Riordan was out with concussion and Dan ‘The Man’ Roche. The conditions were difficult with a strong wind blowing across the pitch and freezing temperatures.
The first try was Midletons with a good pick and drive effort from the pack with Charlie O’Sullivan capitalising and scoring in the corner. Midleton failed to convert because of the unfavourable wind and the next try was Newtown’s who converted their try to lead by two points. The next score was a Newtown penalty, then Newtown try. With five minute to go Midleton got a penalty to bring the final score to 15-8 in Newtown’s favor. Both teams played well and we’ll have to wait till next year to get our chance at another victory.
