Midleton College Win Mungret Cup
Tuesday 27 March 2007
On the brightest day of the year the strength and skill of the SCT carry the College to a famous victory in the Mungret Cup. We retained the trophy after a titanic struggle with Newtown School the match played in near perfect conditions in Youghal. Despite a great start by the lads the gallant opposition were the first to score. An unconverted try giving them a a 5-0 lead until a penalty just before half time drew us close. After the interval the pack continued to dominate providing an excellent platform. Scrums and line outs that were 'better than solid' gave not an inch and a determined and well drilled back line defence was superb. After much pressure the Newtown line was breached. Jack Charlesworth went over for the try that took us into the lead. Despite a late burst we held on for a great victory. A great match to end the season on. Well done to all the team and the coaching staff.
