Happy New Year to all! 2011 promises to be a year of significant advance in the facilities provided here at Midleton College. This morning (4th January 2011), the engineering team has commenced site investigation drilling work, a necessary precursor for foundation laying. This will last for 6-7 days. The next phase will see the decommissioning of the Broderick and Clayton dormitories, followed by their demolition and removal at the end of January. Boarder boys have been allocated dormitories in the Orkney Block and Activities Block. The new building works will then commence in early February.

A total of 10 classrooms are being built. These will include new, state-of-the-art Home Economics and Information Technology rooms in addition to 8 general purpose classrooms, bathrooms and circulation space. These resources will allow the College to enhance the level of resources we can provide to our pupils and ensure that they continue to receive the highest standard of education into the future. Home Economics will be offered as a curricular subject from September 2011, upon completion of these works.

The Board of Management is grateful to the Department of Education and Skills for their contribution to the overall funding cost of these works.

In addition the fund-raising campaign for the Sports Complex will move into a new phase in the coming weeks.

Please also be aware that the Board of Directors took the decision to reduce Fees by 7% for the 2011 school year, commencing 1st September 2011, with additional reductions of 20% and 30% for 2nd and 3rd children coming into effect from the same date.
