Ladies Soccer
Since the middle of the last school year (2006/7) we have offered an addition sport for girls at the school. s shown by the recent Women's world cup in China the female game is rapidly growing in popularity. As usual Midleton College moves with the sporting times and has formed one of the first girls school teams in the area.
Training is on Tuesday evening and is organised by Mr. Ken O Neill and Mr. Paul Cashman. All ages and abilities are welcome. Everybody will get game time.
The biggest problem has been finding other teams to play but the few results we have had shown steady improvement.
Girls soccer 2009-2010
This season Midleton College is competing in both the senior and junior Cork league and cup competitions. The senior squad captained by Yvonne Coleman began their campaign with a 3-2 defeat to St . Fanahans of Mitchelstown in a game which they dominated right until the closing stages and were unfortunate to lose. Hopefully our upcoming fixtures will see a reversal of fortunes! Our junior team captained by Hattie Durrant lost their initial league match 3-1 away to a much more experienced Buttevant but were later victorious in a thrilling 5-4 victory at home to Presentation Ballyphehane. This year has also seen the purchase of new goalposts and nets for our pitch along with the introduction of official squad tops for all players. Other developments have seen the commencement of a link up with our local Munster Youths Development Officer in a programme to develop further the coaching and training skills of our panel.Onwards and upwards we go!!
