Junior Cycle

Midleton College is a six year school. The range of age of our students is usually from 12 to 18 years of age.

During their time with us students will sit two state examinations. The first of these is the Junior Certificate which occurs at the end of their third year.

Our fourth year is a Transition Year. During this year an academic program is followed but it is also a year in which the broader aspects of a social education are explored.

The fifth and sixth years are spent in preparation for the second state examination Irish Leaving Certificate.

The entry of students to third level education is usually based on their performance in this examination.

We also take part in the BT Young Scientist Competition.  The picture shows the 2008 Entry. The project from our two first year pupils gained two prizes at this years BT Young Scientist Competition at the RDS in Dublin.  The title of the project was "Fantastic Plastic-But does it have a future?".  With most of the 1st year students traveling up to lend their support and see all the other exhibits the two project workers saw a lot of hard work rewarded with 3rd place in their section (Junior Social and Behavioral Sciences) and a special prize from the European Recycling Platform that was open to all age groups and so was a very large category.  They won €150 each and a large Waterford Crystal Trophy.  Well done to students and parents.  A special thanks to Ms Curtin and Ms Hassey for their assistance.

Extra curricular activities are also very much part of life in Midleton College.
