Jameson Institute

Jameson Institute For The Teaching Of The Natural Sciences

The newest part of the school is the Jameson Institute for the Teaching of the Natural Sciences.  This title refers to our new science block.

It first opened its doors in 1997 and is affectionally known (amongst the staff at least) as Jameson City.

This is a self contained building. It comprises of three laboratories, a lecture room and toilet facilities. At Leaving Certificate level both Physics and Chemistry have recently undergone changes in their syllabuses. As part of these changes they have received new
data logging technology (computer driven instrumentation).

This combined with our regular laboratory work will prepare our students well for the demands presented by both third level and the work place.

In September 2002 the new Leaving Certificate Biology syllabus began.

As with Physics and Chemistry, the new Biology course will emphasise the need for hands on practical work.

In 2006 the pupils sat the new Junior Science exam for the first time. With independently done experiments as part of the coursework and a set practical to do and write up the staff and pupils were once again thankful for these excellent facilities.  In 2007 new digital projectors were added to each room

and wireless internet provided.

The teaching of the sciences is

considered to be an important part of our curriculum. This is evidenced by the large uptake at Leaving Certificate level , where the subjects one takes are of their own choosing.

The lecture room has a broad range of uses ranging from demonstration purposes to regular classes and lectures.

This room seats fifty so it is capable of taking a full year of students.
