About Midleton College

Midleton College has been in existence as a boarding and day school for over 300 years. In that time the College has established and maintained a tradition of high academic achievement. This high academic achievement is combined with a holistic view of the educational, spiritual and personal development of each pupil.

A school the size of Midleton College, approximately 300 pupils, allows for the careful nurturing of the individual within the college community.

The College was founded by a charitable endowment from Lady Elizabeth Villiers in 1696 and prioritises, in the first instance, children whose families are members of the Church Of Ireland. However, the College respects and welcomes applications from those of other faith traditions who are in sympathy with the Church Of Ireland ethos. The College community, both pupil and staff, reflects the diversity of faith backgrounds that is the reality of the Irish society today.

Boarding

Boarding is a central component of the College life. Round the clock supervision provided by members of the teaching staff and the College matrons maintains a structured yet harmonious atmosphere. The College is usually open for the first three weekends of each month and boarders may stay or go home on a Friday evening.
The College provides all meals and a weekly laundry service is also available.

Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA)

In seeking to provide a holistic education for our pupils, the College offers a diverse range of ECA. While the major team sports are rugby and hockey, The College also offers athletics, chess, cricket, golf, horse-riding, orienteering, swimming, table-tennis and tennis. Pupils may also take lessons in piano, guitar, violin and flute. There are three College choirs and a chamber orchestra is being developed. Each year a dramatic production is staged at Christmas. Pupils may also participate in drama, astronomy and cultural interchange.
